13 killed in clash on Mexico-U.S. border lake

Robot finds sauna-like conditions around damaged reactor

Radiation levels may allow workers to re-enter unit 2. Authorities hope to treat and re-use contaminated water. Workers began pumping water out of the unit's turbine plant Tuesday. Tokyo Electric hopes to wind down the crisis in six months. The disaster has led to mandatory evacuations of about 78,000 people living within 20 km (12.5 miles) of the plant and orders to people living another 10 km away to remain sheltered, affecting another 60,000-plus.

Youth arrested in killings of 2 British men

A 16-year-old boy has been arrested in the murder of two British men. The men were found shot dead at 3 a.m. Saturday in Sarasota, Florida. Police have identified the victims as James M. Cooper, 25, and James Thomas Kouzaris, 24. Police were alerted to the incident by a 911 caller who said "a person was lying on the ground covered in blood" at the scene, on a one-way residential street with no businesses. The two men were believed to be friends who recently graduated from college and were in Sarasota to celebrate.

Suicide attacks kill 3, wound 20 in Iraqi capital

A pair of suicide car bombs exploded near a security checkpoint in central Baghdad Monday morning. Three people killed and 20 others injured. The attack took place at the western entrance to the Green Zone.
 

Fires burn across Texas with no end in sight

Dozens of large fires burned out of control Monday in Texas. The Forest Service has been asked to help battle fires covering some 700,000 acres. 31 fires were being fought in East Texas& another 11 fires in West Texas. The fires have many causes, some of them acts of nature, such as lightning strikes, but most of them acts of man. Authorities have responded to 7,807 fires across more than 1.5 million acres since this year's wildfire season began.
